Benedict Cumberbatch is a British national treasure. Even the Royal family loves him. In 2015, Queen Elizabeth II titled him Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for his services to the arts.

Star of Marvel’s Doctor Strange along with other films within the franchise, BBC Drama Sherlock, movies including 12 Years a Slave, 1917, and The Hobbit Benedict is known around the world. Acting success has resulted in a BAFTA award, an Emmy, a Laurence Olivier Award, and multiple nominations for a Golden Globe and Academy Award.

It’s frightening to discover that many of these amazing artistic achievements were almost snatched from the actor when he was abducted at gun-point in 2005. Along with two co-stars, Benedict believed he was about to die.

This is his story of the abduction itself and the profound after-effect on his life.

This story is told using his own words.
