A death row inmate is hoping to have his death sentence reprieved, alleging in a court filing that his late father was the actual killer.

Anthony Sanchez, who was convicted of killing a University of Oklahoma dance student in 1996, was apprehended and sentenced to death in 2006 after advances in DNA evidence linked him to the crime.

Sanchez is scheduled to be executed on September the 21st at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary in McAlester, OK.

The Crime

In December 1996, a 21-year-old dance student named Juli Busken was abducted raped and murdered. Her body was found the next day on the bank of a lake about 15 miles from where she lived. Foreign DNA was found on her clothing.

Juli was 21 years old

Anthony Sanchez became a suspect after his DNA was collected when he went to prison for a burglary. His DNA matched DNA found on Juli’s underwear and a dance-leotard.
