First Transgender Woman to be Executed in the USA in 3 Weeks
She will be the first woman executed by Missouri since the 70s.
A convicted rapist and murderer in Missouri has transitioned while on death row for their horrendous crime, and people are appealing for a reprieve.
Scott McLaughlin (deadname)— aged 49 — was found guilty of the rape and murder of Beverly Guenther in 2003 and is scheduled to be executed in a few weeks’ time.
McLaughlin is now called Amber, but remains incarcerated as, and will be executed as a man, as the state does not have an explicit gender self-identification policy. While this policy may be lacking and in need of addressing, McLaughlin is very much guilty of a terrible crime.
In the early noughties, Amber (then Scott) dated Beverly Guenther for around a year. Beverley ended the relationship but McLaughlin stalked her and was arrested for burglarizing her home.
Beverley obtained a restraining order.
Only a week or so later, McLaughlin abducted Beverley as she left her workplace. McLaughlin brutally raped and stabbed Beverley to death, and then drove her body to a remote location where he concealed it.
