I make $1000 per month for working approximately seven hours per month.

If I want to scale up, I can work more and this is a dream come true for me.

The rest of my time isn’t spent in a hammock; I have a main job, I have children, I have hobbies and ironing.

In my seven hours, I deliver quality and I get paid fairly for it.

In this article, I’ll tell you about my side-hustle and why it’s the best one out there.

Why am sharing this?

Why? Because a year ago, I, perhaps like you, was looking for a way to build something of my own.

I wanted to diversify my income streams by spreading my wings and doing a variety of activities for a fair amount of cash.

I wanted to be fairly nomadic; free to work from anywhere, at times that suit me and my lifestyle.

I wanted control over my days, my schedule and, I admit, my own wellbeing — I didn’t want angry customers or a boss to answer to.

In my search for the perfect side-hustle — actually hustlesI watched soooo many YouTube videos, read so many blogs, and embarked on dozens of ‘free’ courses.

I threw myself into research. Talked to nomadic friends and even reached out to some strangers online, seeking advice.

I tried making lists of my skills and seeking online work that matched. I tried posting gigs on Fiverr, I tried transcription, I tried marketplace selling.

I tried and I tried and I tried and I tried.

It. Was. Exhausting.

Furus (fake gurus) & why you must avoid them in your search for a side-hustle

When it comes to real ways to make money online in 2021, Medium is the best gig that there is. Making money from writing online isn’t easy, but it does pay well when you put the effort in.

During my months of searching for fairly paid side hustles, countless people tried to ‘influence’ me with their Insta-perfect marketing emails.

They told me how I could live in a million-dollar beach house like them if I just learned ‘their method.’

I learned from property marketing furus, social media furus, Amazon selling furus, and everyone in-between as person after person tried to convince me that they knew how to make money and could teach me too…for a price.

I felt frustrated.

I began to convince myself that side-hustles that reward people fairly simply didn’t exist.

I started to believe that every side hustle was simply an evolved, digital version of the old pyramid selling scheme.

I lost faith.

I stumbled upon it purely by chance

My YouTube feed was populated by furus when the algorithm threw me a miracle.

A young woman popped up and began talking to me about how she makes money from writing. She talked about freelancing, client blogs, and I was barely listening because that all sounded great, but wasn’t what I was seeking.

Then she mentioned that she self-publishes to a writing platform…and gets paid per read.

I paused the video.

Self-publishing was another path I’d already drifted down — dozens of furus had promised that I could publish kids' books, quiz books, journals etc. and make my fortune.

I was wary.

Was this woman telling me that there's a platform out there like YouTube, but for written content?

Somewhere I could publish articles, stories, poems, essays, on topics or themes that I’m interested in and know about…then get paid for it when people read them?

A platform with millions of readers on there who are keen on quality content from new and established voices?

Yes. Yes, she was.

In my first month on Medium I made a whopping $6 and change.

In my second month, I hit just under $1000 and I’ve made that figure or more almost every month since.

I’ve had some stories that I’ve written go viral and make $100s really quickly:

and others that get consistent views and make money every month without fail:

How many stories I write each month depends on my availability and my creative juices but this side hustle is totally flexible and makes money even on the months where I’ve only written 2 or 3 pieces.

I’m still earning today from stories I wrote in my first few weeks on the platform.

Can this work for you, too?

Can you read, write and speak fluently in English?

If so, then YES, is the honest answer.

BUT — This is not a get-rich-quick scheme because I am not a furu trying to sell you an impossible dream.

This is simply a side hustle that pays fairly, offers nomadic working, is flexible, and is hugely enjoyable.

If you go into it and expect to put the work in, (especially for the first few months) there’s no reason why you can’t establish a regular income stream as I’ve done.

Medium is a one-of-a-kind platform that gives new writers the chance to publish articles and get paid if people enjoy reading them.

Medium is a platform of quality and if you deliver quality, you will be rewarded.

Writers are paid based on how many people read an article and for how long the readers spend enjoying each piece. You will be paid fairly and on time every month. All of the stats are transparent and you can track the performance of each piece.

Unlike some of the schemes I encountered…

You don’t need to sell anything.

You don’t need to recruit more writers.

You don’t need a huge social presence or following.

You don’t need to buy training or pay anyone to teach you how do it.

You just need to write quality articles, consistently.

That is why, in my opinion, this is the best side hustle in the world today.
