Why did we Vote for Brexit?

and what does it mean for the 51% of women who voted to remain in the EU?

On 23rd June 2016, 72% of the United Kingdom turned out to vote in what was described by our Prime Minister as the ‘biggest democratic exercise’ in our history.

Be in no doubt, this decision was one that was not taken lightly.

Brexit was discussed over dining tables around the kingdom, dividing our nations, dividing our genders and dividing our families from John O’Groats to Lands’ End.

When it came to it, the margin was only 3.78%.

We would leave the EU.

Why Had the UK Made This Choice?

Both the Remain and Leave Campaigns focussed on a number of points;

  • Control — decision making powers around legislation
  • Immigration — opening the UK borders to all EU member states
  • National Identity- currency especially; Brits are very passionate about ours.
  • Money- the economic pros and cons of belonging to the EU
